Adelphi Hotel owner buys Pontin’s

Adelphi hotel 300

THE owner of Liverpool’s Adelphi Hotel has bought the Pontin’s chain of holiday camps, saving hundreds of jobs.

The Britannia Hotel Group tonight sealed the deal to buy the Merseyside-based chain, which collapsed into administration in November.

The deal saves 850 jobs at the chain, which includes a holiday park and head office in Ainsdale, Southport.

David Costley-Wood, restructuring partner at KPMG and joint administrator, said: “Concluding the sale of Pontin’s to Britannia as a going concern is a fantastic result.

“The business attracted a high level of interest from a broad range of investors such as wealthy individuals, private equity houses, property developers and trade buyers.

“We are really pleased that Britannia, a leisure operator with a proven track record, has clinched the winning bid, ensuring Pontin’s lives on as a destination for holidaymakers. The dea

Get an adequate training with grants for single mothers

Being a single mother is very difficult especially if there are many children that require your support. The financial crisis is only a part, but plays a major chunk of her responsibilities. With the global economic crisis we are facing today, it is even harder being a single mother now. And the government offers a federal program of grants for single mom, as there is an added dilemma of the difficulty to find decent pay because of lack of adequate training. Most companies prefer to hire people who have earned at least a few units at the university, and a single mother is not qualified without education.

These mothers are left to accept jobs that are very poorly paid that is not even enough to meet the daily expenses. The root cause of all is the poverty that leads to a lack of education. That is why the government has taught to give free education to qualified mothers to help them improve their living standards. Read more…

Relocated stadium egg produces healthy eaglet

The American Eagle Foundation announced today that the bald eaglet broke out of its shell Dec. 29 in an incubator at the foundation’s headquarters in Pigeon Forge.

The bird will be fed by human-operated eagle puppets, and eventually released in the Great Smoky Mountains sometime in mid-March when it is 13 weeks old. The group has a nice artificial nesting tower picked out on the shores of Douglas Lake.

The other egg was removed at the same time but has since been determined to be infertile, the group said.

Officials from Sarasota County and a state wildlife agency took the highly unusual step Dec.

LinkedIn is “buzzing” with activity – Visualize it now with LinkedIn Swarm

Other than being one of my favorite days, LinkedIn Hackday (part of our “inDay” program) is one day set aside each month where employees step away from their every day job functions to give back to the community, create new rapid prototypes, solve business problems, express ideas and be creative while learning and “bending” new technologies. Hackday isn’t just limited to technically minded people or engineers. In fact, all employees have the opportunity to join a team and collaborate on amazing new ideas.

People use LinkedIn daily for their professional success.  Finding a job, sharing professional content, gathering professional insights using Signal, connecting with like-minded business colleagues while creating a rich professional network are just a few examples of how people use LinkedIn to be more productive and successful.  In most cases, this entire process starts with a simple “search”.

I love data and LinkedIn has one of the richest datasets that I have ever had the opportunity to access. But with such a

Sportech on track to deliver expected profits

LIVERPOOL gaming and pools group Sportech said profits for the year are expected to be in line with forecasts today.

In a trading update for the year it said earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation should be in the region of £19.7m.

The Walton-based group, which operates the New Football Pools brand, also revealed that strong cash flows enabled it to reduce net bank debt by almost 10% to £72.3m, better than market forecasts.

Sportech confirmed the integration of its US betting business Scientific Games Racing after last year’s £51.4m acquisition is “at an advanced stage”.

It also expects to announce further distribution deals for its football pools business this year.

Chief executive Ian Penrose said: “2010 has been a transformational year for Sportech.

“We have also continued to modernise our existing operations. In a tough tradi

How to Offer a No Credit Check Lease with Purchase Option to Customers

It’s no surprise that the majority of lenders that provide financing are denying over 45% of merchant’s consumer credit applications with credit scores being the main factor.

But there is good news for you because there’s an alternative financing option that can help you capture those lost sales regardless of how damaged your customer’s credit is.

Think about this for a moment and ask yourself how many more sales could you gain by offering no credit check financing?

Think it sounds too good to be true?

Well, it’s not and there are companies like Progressive Finance that specialize in offering merchants like you a lease/purchase option for your customers who don’t want their credit checked, can’t obtain primary financing due to poor credit, or lack the money they need for a down payment.

In a recent press release Progressive announced a new web site designed to better streamline the process for store owners. Curt Doma

2011 Mileage Rate IRS Standard Deduction Amount Set

When deducting eligible automobile expenses, taxpayers have the option of deducting actual expenses or using the optional standard mileage rates to deduct automotive expenses. Because, the records required in order to deduct the actual expenses and depreciation of a car expenses are extensive and detailed, most people opt to use the standard mileage deduction.

In addition, many businesses use the standard IRS mileage rates to reimburse employees for miles driven for work purposes. This both ensures that the company can deduct those reimbursements fully as a business expense, and that there is no disagreement about what the mileage reimbursement rate should be since an impartial government agency is the one that sets it.

The mileage deduction rate is adjusted every year. The standard 2011 tax deduction mileage rate has been published.

Standard IRS 2011 Mileage Rates

Beginning on January 1st, 2011, the standard mileage rates for calculating the deductible costs of operating a car or truck for business purposes is 51 cents per mile. Read more…

Groupon IPO Better Hurry UP

Not long ago, news that Groupon had spurned Google’s $6 billion takeover bid was released and I couldn’t help but thinking that maybe Groupon had succumbed to pop-star diva mentality, where everyone except you and the flatterers you surround yourself with know that your future at the top is shaky at best.

Later reports suggested that Groupon was worried that the deal might eventually be blocked by regulators and that the company would be left holding the bag after spending over a year in waiting mode. That makes more sense, but I still thought the clock was ticking. After that, reports suggested that Groupon raised more money to buy out early investors who wanted to cash out. Looks like I’m not the only one worried about the future.

The main issue with Groupon is that the barrier to entry, or the so-called economic moat, around its business model is virtually non-existent. Sure,
